INITIATING KUVA CLUBS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF ARUSHA MUNICIPAL
– August 18, 2007

Together with international volunteers and local youths, CHAWAKUA created Kupima UKIMWI kwa Vijana wa Arusha (KUVA) clubs: youth-led groups that promote HIV Testing for citizens of Arusha.  KUVA clubs were initiated in 7 secondary schools and one street children’s organization, Children for Children’s Future (CCF).  KUVA clubs work with youth who are both in and out of school.

The group  most vulnerable or at risk of being infected by HIV in Tanzania are youth under 25 years old. Non government organizations, international organizations and the government are working hard to educate people in order to be free the community from  the virus.  On July 14th 2006, the President of Tanzania, Mr. Kikwete launched a National campaign on Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) to encourage Tanzanians to come forward, test, and know their health status.  The event was accepted by majority of Tanzanians and we received generous support.
